Description

Civil society organisation (est. 2023) working on EU affairs, rule of law and EMFA implementation; developer of a 4-pillar media independence index.

ConnectEurope’s main field of work is EU affairs, rule of law and media independence. Building on our four-pillar Public Media Independence Index, we are interested in developing similar diagnostic, evidence-based methodologies for related challenges such as information security, media literacy and local/rural media coverage gaps (information deserts), assessing factors like information presence, ownership transparency and basic editorial standards, and producing practical, reusable tools and handbooks for other civil society organisations.

Competence and Expertise Offered

ConnectEurope offers expertise in developing evidence-based methodologies for assessing media independence, demonstrated through our four-pillar Public Media Independence Index. Our track record includes policy advocacy (an EMFA proposal submitted to the Hungarian government), applied research, content monitoring, and running the ConnectCafé podcast series and public conferences, enabling us to design, implement and disseminate replicable monitoring projects.

Expertise sought

We seek cooperation with civil society organisations in donor countries (Norway, Iceland, Liechtenstein) with expertise in local/rural media landscapes, information deserts, media literacy or information security, particularly organisations experienced in diagnostic or monitoring methodologies and capacity-building for local journalism, to exchange knowledge, validate our methodology, and explore joint approaches to strengthening independent local media coverage in underserved regions.
